Our country home is located in the Beaver Valley, Ontario, a beautiful country setting in the four-season resort area of The Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountains is 1 1/2 hours north of Toronto airport and is a great base for exploring all of southern Ontario. Nearby is Georgian Bay, scenic walks, hiking trails, cycling, beaches, sailing destinations and a range of golf courses to suit every skill level. The house is set on 80 acres of gorgeous countryside, with a large swimming pond in full view of the wrap-around verandah. We are ten minutes by car from one of the Great Lakes - the largest body of freshwater in the world. The main floor has a large country kitchen, spacious sunroom, living room with wireless internet and satellite television, spacious bathroom and a bedroom with a queen size bed. Upstairs there are four bedrooms, two with queen size beds, one with a double bed and one with two twin beds. The master bedroom has LCD television. We spend most of our time on the verandah during the summer as it is a great place to watch people swimming in the pond, playing croquet, eating meals outdoors, or enjoying a glass of wine and watching the sunset.

Our home is on 80 acres of rolling countryside, situated in the middle of one of the most beautiful recreational areas in the province - hiking and bicycle trails, sandy beaches, and numerous golf courses abound. My brother-in-law from Vancouver thinks that the cycling here is the best he has found anywhere (and we have bicycles available for you to use). Besides recreation, the area is well known for its artistic community with many galleries, studios and art tours. Golfing is a big activity here and there are three championship golf courses, as well as numerous golf courses that enjoy a more leisurely pace. September is a beautiful time here, with the harvest festivals, studio tours and the buzz of the apple picking. A great time to taste Ontario's fresh produce. There are 20 apple trees on the property and you are welcome to enjoy the fruit.
Twenty minutes to the north and east are the towns of Collingwood, Wasaga Beach and Thornbury, with great shopping and restaurants. All three of these towns are located on the shores of Georgian Bay, part of Lake Huron - Wasaga has the largest fresh water beach in the world. Thirty minutes to the south is Creemore, a pretty little village with boutique style shopping and home to the famous Creemore Springs brewery. To the west you can explore the Meaford, Owen Sound and Bruce Peninsula with its fabulous eastern coastline, great hiking trails, antique shops and, of course, the beach at Sauble - one of the best around. The sunsets at Sauble are legendary, on the shores of Lake Huron. Georgian Bay is the largest bay on Lake Huron and has over 1000 miles of shoreline & 30,000 islands. It provides a myriad of opportunities for sailing, boating, swimming, hiking and even great diving at the underwater National Park in Tobermory.
Summers in Ontario mean outdoor activities - day trips to quaint towns and wine regions and, if you are a bit more adventurous, there are a myriads of wilderness activities. There is an abundance of theatre in areas such as Blyth, Niagara on the Lake (which hosts the Shaw Festival) and Stratford, which is renowned for its renowned performances of Shakespearean and other plays. We are also 2 hours away from the Niagara Wine Region so, while Niagara Falls is a 'must see', the Wine Region is also worth a trip and in all seasons there are winery tours. A trip to the Niagara wine region, combined with taking in a performance at the Shaw Festival, is one of our favourite activities.
Toronto is two hours away and a great base from which to explore North America. We are one hour by plane from Washington, New York, Chicago, Boston and, if you are keen on using your French, Montreal and Quebec City are a train ride away. Ottawa, our capital city, is a wonderful spot to spend a few days. It is in a picturesque setting on the Ottawa River and a visit to the National Gallery, the Museum of Civilization and the Parliament Buildings are 'must sees'.
Algonquin Park is one of our most famous parks and is known for recreation of all kinds, but especially canoeing. The Temagami Region and beyond are wonderful places to explore the wilderness of Canada - we have taken canoe trips there and the lakes are pristine fresh water, totally uncrowded and so peaceful. Our home is a great base from which to explore all aspects of Ontario - from wilderness to city living.
We can arrange access to our car, a Jetta Diesel, if there is reciprocation. Otherwise, you will need a car to get here.

We are a professional retired couple who have sold our management consulting business and so have more time on our hands to spend time away. Our children are both grown and working here in Toronto and in Washington, DC. We love to travel and have had seven successful exchanges to date. All of them have worked out very well and we are eager to continue the pattern. Our interests in include hiking, biking, travel, theatre, music. We have bicycles available if you wish to use them.
